India's Border Villages Get ₹11,639 Crore Development Push

India's border villages are set to receive a significant development boost under the Centre's Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). The programme, which covers 2,616 villages along the country's international borders, aims to bring these remote areas into the development mainstream.

The VVP is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase having an outlay of ₹4,800 crore from 2022-23 to 2026-27, and the second phase having an outlay of ₹6,839 crore through 2028-29. The government aims to make Army and paramilitary border posts local markets where troops buy everyday essentials from nearby farms.
