CM Inspects India's Longest Water Tunnel

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to inspect the country's longest water tunnel, the Sleemanabad Tunnel, in Katni district on Friday. The 11.952-km-long tunnel is nearing completion, with only a one-metre breakthrough remaining.

The Sleemanabad water tunnel is one of the state's most ambitious irrigation projects, designed to transport Narmada water through the Vindhya mountain range to the Son River basin by gravity.

Upon completion, the tunnel will provide permanent irrigation facilities to 2.45 lakh hectares of land across nearly 1,450 villages in six districts: Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar, Satna, Rewa, and Panna. This is expected to transform the agricultural economy in the Vindhya and Mahakaushal regions.

The tunnel has significant cultural importance, as it is seen as a bridge that will heal the centuries-old separation between the Narmada and Sonbhadra rivers. According to folklore, these rivers originated in the Maikal range at Amarkantak and flowed in opposite directions, drifting apart forever.

The project's completion will have a major impact on the region's agriculture, allowing for more efficient irrigation and potentially increasing crop yields. The tunnel is a significant achievement in engineering, given its length and the challenges of building it through the Vindhya mountain range.

The inspection by the Chief Minister highlights the importance of the project and the state government's commitment to completing it. The project has been in the works for several years, and its completion is eagerly anticipated by the local population.

The Sleemanabad Tunnel is not just a major irrigation project but also a symbol of the state's efforts to develop its infrastructure and improve the lives of its citizens. The project's success will have far-reaching consequences for the region's economy and environment.

In conclusion, the inspection of the Sleemanabad Tunnel by the Chief Minister is a significant event that highlights the importance of this project for the state's agricultural economy and infrastructure development. The project's completion will have a major impact on the region, and its success will be closely watched by the local population and the state government.
