CBI Books Defence Officials, Middleman Over Rs 1.22 Crore Bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against several individuals, including defence accounts officials, a middleman, and contractors, in connection with an alleged bribery racket involving contracts worth Rs 1.22 crore under the Ministry of Defence.

The accused include Assistant Accounts Officer Subhash Kumar and auditor Urvashi Kumawat, both attached to the PCDA (Southern Command) in Pune. Additionally, three contractor firms - Satya Narayan Security and Manpower Solution, Genius Technology, and Rudra Ventures - are also implicated in the case.

According to the complaint filed by Additional Controller of Defence Accounts Mani Velan K, the three firms were awarded contracts worth a total of Rs 1.22 crore by the Ministry of Defence. The CBI alleges that a middleman, Adinath Dattatray Popalkar, acted as an intermediary, collecting bribe amounts from the contractors and transferring the money to the concerned public servants.

The investigation found that Popalkar received significant amounts of money from the contractors, including Rs 94,000 from Satyanarayan Security and Manpower Solution, Rs 1.63 lakh from Rudra Ventures, and Rs 15,000 from Genius Technology. Furthermore, it was discovered that Popalkar transferred Rs 85,500 to Kumawat's Axis Bank account, which was then transferred to Kumar's account.
