Kerala Launches Digital Square Project in 6,000 Schools

The Kerala government has announced the launch of the Digital Square project in approximately 6,000 lower primary and upper primary schools. This initiative aims to strengthen digital learning facilities across the state.

The government is also considering extending the existing school midday meal scheme up to Plus Two and including breakfast along with lunch. Currently, the Centre-sponsored PM POSHAN scheme covers students up to Class 8. Extending the scheme to the higher secondary level would help ensure nutritious food for all school students.

Regarding the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET), Samsudheen said the government is bound to implement the Supreme Court verdict. A curative petition would be filed before the apex court to bring clarity to provisions of the judgment that had led to confusion among teachers.

As part of the 100-day programme, around 1,700 pending appointments related to reservation for persons with disabilities have been identified and approved. The government is examining arrangements to implement the court-mandated four per cent reservation for persons with disabilities in appointments by treating each district as a unit.

A special committee has been constituted to study the issues faced by physical education teachers and recommend solutions. The committee will submit its report within six months. Furthermore, an expert committee will be constituted to modernise vocational higher secondary education, update courses, and link them with emerging employment opportunities.
