UP Teachers Get Training On Girls' Safety, Self-Esteem

The Yogi Government in Uttar Pradesh has initiated a training programme for teachers to enhance their understanding of issues affecting girls' self-esteem and safety.

The two-day Master Trainer Training Programme, which commenced on September 9, aims to equip 450 Master Trainers with the skills to create a safe and respectful environment in schools.

The programme focuses on sensitive issues such as teasing, body image, social media impact, and gender stereotypes. It also includes training on the formation of Meena Manch, a platform for girls to express themselves, and the role of 'Power Angel', a mentor who guides and supports them.

The training programme uses four newly developed comic books as teaching resources to explain complex issues in a simple and engaging manner. These resources will help improve children's enrolment, attendance, and participation in school activities.

On the first day of the training, participants discussed key messages related to child safety, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act). They also practiced facilitation skills through mock demonstrations and constructive feedback.

The second day of the training covered the revised Pragati Ke Pankh module, which includes four new chapters, 13 sessions, and a teacher guidebook. Participants practiced linking these sessions with the curriculum and the lives of adolescents through group exercises and mock sessions.

The training programme is part of the Special Project for Equity and the Meena Manch Programme, which aims to promote girls' education and empowerment. The programme's objective is to enable every girl child to move forward confidently towards her education and future.

The initiative is significant as it recognizes the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment in schools. By training teachers to address sensitive issues, the programme aims to boost girls' self-esteem, safety, and dignity.
