BMC Trains 8-10 Volunteers From Each Ganesh Mandal

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a one-day Emergency Management and First Responder training programme for volunteers from each Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandal in Mumbai.

The training programme, conducted by the BMC's Disaster Management Department, aims to equip at least 8-10 volunteers from each mandal with the necessary skills to manage large crowds, respond to emergencies, and provide first aid during the Ganesh festival.

The initiative comes after a recent incident in Bhuleshwar, where two people were killed and five others injured when a 22-foot Ganesh idol collapsed. The BMC is strengthening safety and preparedness measures ahead of the upcoming festival.

The training will cover various aspects, including crowd management, preventive measures to avoid accidents, precautions during prasad distribution, and emergency response procedures. Volunteers will also receive practical demonstrations on first aid and CPR.

The programme will be conducted across all 26 BMC administrative wards, with ward offices coordinating with Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals. Officials from the BMC Disaster Management Department, Mumbai Fire Brigade, BMC's Electrical Supply and Transport Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Mumbai Police will guide the volunteers during the training.
