Indore Man Loses ₹70,000 to Fake Bank SMS Scam

A resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, lost ₹70,000 in a matter of 15 minutes after falling prey to a fake bank credit SMS scam. The incident occurred on August 20 in the Chandan Nagar area.

The victim, Ajay Singh Solanki, received a call from an unknown number, with the caller claiming to be someone Solanki knew personally. The caller stated that he was transferring ₹25,000 into Solanki's bank account and asked him to verify the transaction via SMS.

Solanki received a fake SMS notification confirming the credit and subsequently transferred ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 to the scammer's account in two separate transactions. The scammer then called again, claiming to send an additional ₹50,000, and Solanki made five more transfers, totalling ₹45,000.

It was only after the transactions were complete that Solanki became suspicious and checked his actual bank account statement. He realised that no funds had been credited to his account and that the incoming SMS alerts were fabricated messages sent by the scammer.

In total, Solanki lost ₹70,000 in the scam. The police have registered a case under relevant sections and launched an investigation into the matter.

This incident highlights the importance of being cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages, especially those related to financial transactions. It is essential to verify the authenticity of such messages before taking any action.
