Bhopal Paralyzed By Heavy Rain, Waterlogging

Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, came to a standstill on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall, resulting in severe waterlogging and traffic jams. The city experienced torrential rain in the evening, leading to waterlogged roads and traffic congestion in several areas.

The affected areas included Hoshangabad Road, Board office, Jyoti Talkies, 1100 Quarters, and Kolar, where traffic jams were reported. Similarly, in Old Bhopal, traffic jams and waterlogging were seen in Itwara, Nadra Bus stand, Jumerati, and other areas.

According to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Superintending Engineer Udit Garg, the water level of Upper Lake in Bhopal increased by three feet in the last two days. The recorded water level was 1663.20ft, while its Full Tank Level (FTL) is 1666.8ft.

Motorists had to navigate through waterlogged roads in many areas, with vehicles remaining stranded in the rain. The stretch from Board Office to Chetak Bridge at Jyoti Talkies was completely waterlogged.

Waterlogging was also reported in Shiv Nagar, Oriya Basti, and other gas victims' colonies, which faced similar issues on Monday. In Aishbag, a low-lying area, rainwater entered houses, causing problems for residents.

In Jumerati, Old Bhopal, traders faced waterlogging on roads, affecting the entire wholesale market. At Hanuman Mandir, 1100 quarter, motorists had to wade through heavily waterlogged roads, leading to a long traffic jam.

Waterlogging was also seen at RCVP Noronha Academy and Alpana Tiraha (Hamidia Road). In Kolar, many areas remained waterlogged for the second consecutive day, with low-lying colonies and apartment basements affected due to overflowing local drains and unfinished civic infrastructure.

The most affected areas included Lalita Nagar, Nayapura, Mandakini Colony, Sarvdham Colony, and parts of Kolar Road. Besides, traffic jams led to chaos on roads in the Kolar area.

The heavy rainfall, which measured 7 inches in 24 hours, caused significant disruption in the city. As a result, the MIC meeting was postponed in Madhya Pradesh.

The situation in Bhopal highlights the need for improved civic infrastructure and effective drainage systems to mitigate the effects of heavy rainfall. The city's residents are hoping for a swift resolution to the waterlogging issue and a return to normalcy.
