Bhopal Railway Depot Installs Smart Lighting, Saves ₹8.27 Lakh Annually

The Rani Kamlapati coaching depot in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has introduced a smart pit lighting system. This system was inaugurated by West Central Railway general manager Dilip Singh on Saturday.

The smart pit lighting system automatically controls the lighting based on the presence of a train. The lights turn on when a train enters the pit and turn off when it exits. This is made possible by smart proximity sensors and a Programmable Logic Controller-based control system.

The system has been installed in pit numbers 8, 9, and 10 of the depot. It ensures the required illumination levels as per Railway Board standards. The smart system is expected to save around 88,000 units of electricity annually. This will result in an annual cost saving of approximately ₹8.27 lakh.
