Two Arrested For Supplying Mule Bank Accounts In Pune Cyber Fraud

Pune Cyber Police have arrested two men, Abhikesh Mohan Acharekar from Goa and Anmol Sharma from Kolkata, for allegedly helping cyber fraudsters receive money through a network of 60 to 70 bank accounts. The investigation began after a private company manager approached the Cyber Police alleging that he had been cheated of ₹83.80 lakh. The fraudsters had promised him a 500% profit if he invested money in foreign share markets, stock markets, and initial public offerings (IPOs).

The police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. During the financial investigation, police traced the movement of the complainant's money and found that it was transferred into a bank account held with the Central Bank of India. The account was linked to two Goa residents, Abhikesh Acharekar and Pratiksha Naik.

Police then began tracing Acharekar using technical analysis and finally detained him on August 28. During interrogation, Acharekar admitted to opening the Central Bank of India account and receiving money linked to cyber frauds. He also revealed that he worked with Anmol Sharma, who was based in Kolkata.

The investigation uncovered a larger suspected network where Acharekar and his associates targeted ordinary people in Goa, particularly women, with promises of arranging loans. The victims were allegedly persuaded to provide their bank account details or accounts for the promised loan services. Police said around 60 to 70 bank accounts were obtained in this manner.

The financial and technical investigation is still underway, and police believe that crores of rupees may have been routed through such accounts. The arrested suspects are currently being held by the police, and further investigation is being conducted to uncover the extent of the network.

The case highlights the growing concern of cyber frauds in the country, where fraudsters use various tactics to cheat people of their money. The use of mule bank accounts is a common tactic used by fraudsters to receive money from their victims.

The police are advising people to be cautious when dealing with unknown individuals or companies, especially when it comes to investments or loan offers. People are also advised to never share their bank account details or other personal information with unknown individuals.

The investigation is a significant step in the fight against cyber frauds, and the police are working to uncover the entire network and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The case is a reminder of the importance of being vigilant and cautious when dealing with financial transactions, especially in the digital age. People are advised to always verify the authenticity of any investment or loan offer before making any transactions.

In conclusion, the arrest of the two suspects is a significant breakthrough in the investigation, and the police are working to uncover the entire network of cyber frauds. The case highlights the need for people to be cautious and vigilant when dealing with financial transactions, and to always verify the authenticity of any investment or loan offer.
