UP To Set Up 238 EV Charging Stations

Uttar Pradesh is taking a significant step towards promoting electric vehicles and developing a green transport system. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state is expediting work on establishing 238 public EV charging stations with 714 chargers under the PM E-Drive Scheme and the Uttar Pradesh EV Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022.

The initiative aims to strengthen the charging network in the state and attract investment. The charging stations will be developed in the first phase, with a 10-year contract proposed for their operation. The stations will be established on government land and will be used exclusively for EV charging activities, with a land use charge of Rs 1 per kilowatt levied from the concerned departments.

The charging stations have been divided into four categories, with different levels of subsidy proposed for stations at government offices, railway stations, airports, metro stations, petrol pumps, toll plazas, and other public places. The objective of the scheme is to create a charging network across cities as well as on major highways.

The Uttar Pradesh EV Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022 aims to make the state a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and development. The policy includes provisions such as capital incentives for service providers establishing charging stations and the availability of government land.

The state government has identified cities for the establishment of charging stations, with the highest number proposed in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Meerut, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. The charging stations will be established on land available with Municipal Corporations, Development Authorities, power distribution companies, and other government agencies.
