UP Removes 1.95 Lakh Unfit Vehicles From Roads

The Uttar Pradesh Government's Vehicle Scrappage Policy, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has successfully removed over 1.95 lakh unfit vehicles from the state's roads as of June 30, 2026. This includes more than 1.85 lakh private vehicles and over 10,000 government vehicles that have been scrapped through authorized scrapping centers.

The policy aims to promote road safety, environmental protection, and a modern transport system. The entire vehicle scrapping process has been made technology-driven, transparent, and simple, with 101 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) registered in the state, of which 50 centers are fully operational.

These centers are carrying out the scientific disposal of old and unserviceable vehicles, with the entire process conducted online through the Central Government's V-Scrap Portal and VAHAN system. This ensures transparency and relieves vehicle owners of unnecessary hassles.

Proposals and applications for 30 new scrapping centers are under process, which will enable this facility to reach most districts of the state in the coming period.

The policy also gives special attention to the interests of vehicle owners, issuing a Certificate of Deposit after they deposit their vehicle at an authorized scrapping center. Based on this certificate, there is a provision for up to a 10 percent rebate in road tax for commercial vehicles and up to a 15 percent rebate for private vehicles while purchasing a new vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle owner receives the value of the scrapped vehicle.
