Pune Family Suicide Attempt Claims 3 Lives

A tragic incident occurred in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, where a family of three attempted suicide, resulting in the death of all three members. The deceased have been identified as Vinod Pillai, 50, his wife Shailaja, 45, and their daughter Purnima, 19.

The family was found unconscious in their apartment at Karishma Glory in Morwadi after Shailaja failed to report to work at an international school where she taught. Staff from the school made further enquiries, which led to the discovery of the incident. Vinod was declared dead upon arrival at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, while Shailaja and Purnima succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

According to police, a handwritten suicide note was recovered from the flat, stating that the family had taken the extreme step due to financial difficulties. The note also mentioned that no one should be held responsible for their deaths. Preliminary investigation suggests that the family generated poisonous fumes by placing a toxic substance on burning coal inside the house, which they allegedly inhaled, leading to loss of consciousness.

The police are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to confirm the exact cause of death. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Atole stated that the family was originally from Kerala and had been living in Morwadi since 2023. Vinod had recently lost his job at a private company, while Shailaja worked as a teacher and Purnima was a college student.

The police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are continuing their investigation. They have seized the mobile phones of all three deceased and are examining whether there was any abetment or harassment that may have led to the incident. Investigators are also checking whether the family had searched online for methods of suicide before taking the extreme step.

This incident highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues and seeking help when needed. Financial difficulties can be overwhelming, but there are resources available to help individuals and families cope with such challenges.

The community is in shock following this tragic incident, and the police are urging anyone who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts to seek help. Mental health helplines are available to provide support and guidance to those in need.

In conclusion, the death of the Pillai family is a tragic reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues and seeking help when needed.
