Pune Woman Dies By Suicide Amid Harassment Claims

Sonali Gaikwad, the 23-year-old wife of Nagesh Gaikwad, a victim of the Moshi garbage depot tragedy, died by suicide on Wednesday at her residence in Moshi, Pune.

According to the police, Sonali died by hanging at around 7 pm, and no suicide note was found. Her family has alleged that she was being mentally harassed by her in-laws before her death.

Abhay Kalyan Wakte, Sonali's brother, claimed that her in-laws had been torturing her since her husband's death. He alleged that her mother-in-law and father-in-law repeatedly blamed Sonali for Nagesh's death, saying she was the reason for the tragedy.

Sonali had two young daughters, aged one and two, and had become increasingly isolated after her husband's death. Her family noticed a change in her behavior and claimed that she was in depression.

The family has also raised questions over the financial assistance received after Nagesh's death. The government had announced a total of Rs 40 lakh to the family of the victims, out of which a Rs 10 lakh cheque was received. However, Sonali's family alleged that she received only 40% of the amount, while her in-laws received 60%.

Sonali's family has demanded that an FIR be registered against her in-laws, suspecting foul play in her death. They have refused to take her body for the post-mortem until a case is registered.

The incident has highlighted the issue of harassment and mental torture faced by women in their in-laws' homes. It has also raised questions about the distribution of financial assistance to the families of victims.
