Assam Floods: Locals Rescue Over 1,000 Stranded People

A group of locals from nearly four to five villages in Assam's Sivasagar district rescued over 1,000 people stranded in deep water after floodwaters rapidly submerged the Nepali Khuti area. They realised the water was likely about to enter their homes and decided to prioritize saving their families instead of collecting wood.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 60,000 people and 160 villages in Sivasagar district are still affected by the floods. The flood-affected districts are Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Dhemaji.
