Rats, Cockroaches Found In Indore's 5-Star Sayaji Hotel Kitchen

A recent food safety inspection at the 5-star Sayaji Hotel in Indore's Vijay Nagar area has exposed several hygiene and safety violations. The inspection, conducted by the Food Safety Department, found 66 kg of non-vegetarian food without batch numbers, packing details, manufacturing dates, and expiry dates.

The required temperature for storing food was also not maintained, and vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were stored together in the cold storage. Several food items were kept directly on the floor or against walls, and packed kulfi did not have manufacturing dates, expiry dates, or batch numbers.

In addition to these violations, inspectors found mouldy peanuts, rotten tomatoes and potatoes, along with improperly labelled food products. Cockroaches, rat droppings, and signs of rat infestation were also found on the premises, and cracks, rust, and poor maintenance were noticed in storage and food preparation areas.

The hotel was also found operating a bakery and making sweets, though these activities were reportedly not included in its licence. Used cooking oil was being discharged directly into the drainage system, and samples of paneer, raw non-vegetarian food, packed paneer, fennel, dry fruits, and other food items were collected for testing.

According to Food Safety official Manish Swami, action would be taken on the basis of investigation findings, and further action would be taken in case of violation of licensing conditions. The licence could also be suspended depending on the severity of the irregularities.

The discovery of these violations has raised concerns about the safety and hygiene of food served at the hotel. The Food Safety Department has taken action against both kitchens of the Sayaji Hotel, and the hotel's management will have to take corrective measures to address these issues.

The incident highlights the importance of regular inspections and monitoring of food safety and hygiene standards in hotels and restaurants. It also emphasizes the need for hotels to maintain proper labelling, storage, and handling of food products to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers.

In recent times, there have been several instances of food safety violations in hotels and restaurants in India. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for strict enforcement of food safety regulations and the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in the food industry.

The Sayaji Hotel incident has sparked concern among residents and customers, and the hotel's management will have to take immediate action to address these issues and restore public trust. The Food Safety Department will continue to monitor the situation and take further action if necessary.

The incident also raises questions about the effectiveness of the current food safety regulatory framework and the need for more stringent measures to ensure compliance with food safety standards. The government and regulatory authorities will have to take a closer look at the existing regulations and make necessary amendments to prevent such incidents in the future.

In conclusion, the discovery of food safety violations at the Sayaji Hotel in Indore is a serious issue that requires immediate attention and action. The hotel's management and the regulatory authorities must work together to address these issues and ensure that the food served at the hotel is safe and hygienic for consumption.
