Madhya Pradesh has climbed to the 9th position in the country in terms of child adoption, with a significant increase in the number of adoptions in 2025-26. According to a report by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), the total number of child adoptions in MP increased to 221 in 2025-26, marking a 66% rise from the 133 adoptions recorded in 2024-25.

The health-wise data for 2025-26 indicates that out of the total 221 adopted children in MP, 209 were categorized under normal health, while 12 children with special needs found families. Of these, 8 were adopted through inter-country placements.

At the national level, the total number of adoptions also witnessed a jump from 4,515 in 2024-25 to 5,022 in 2025-26. Maharashtra accounted for the highest number of adoptions, with 730 children adopted in 2025-26, followed by Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana.
