Mumbai Police Arrest 10 For ₹16 Lakh Admission Scam

A group of individuals has been arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly duping a student of ₹16 lakh on the pretext of promising admission to an engineering college.

The complaint was registered at a police station after the student was defrauded of the amount. Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Datta Nalawade shared details of the case, stating that the investigation revealed a well-organised group was operating the admission fraud scheme.

The accused reportedly used social media to lure students, posting paid advertisements and contacting those who showed interest in securing admissions. They would even take victims to the campuses of various private universities, assuring them that admission could be secured through the NRI or management quota.

Following the investigation, police arrested 10 people and seized around 22 mobile phones and other items, with the total value of the seized articles estimated at approximately ₹1.35 crore.

The investigation is currently underway, and further details regarding the total number of victims, bank account transactions, cash components, and other aspects of the case will be shared as the probe progresses.
