Central Railway RPF Recovers Lakhs in Gold Ornaments

The Central Railway RPF team has successfully solved two high-value theft cases, recovering gold ornaments worth lakhs in two separate operations.

The first case involved the theft of a sackbag containing 181 grams of gold ornaments from the Maharashtra Express. The theft was reported on February 10, 2026, by a passenger traveling from Pune to Miraj. A joint team of RPF Pune, Local Crime Branch, and GRP Pune launched an investigation, examining over 500 CCTV footages from various locations.

Through systematic analysis and intelligence gathering, the suspect was identified as Santosh Chandrakant Rane, a 49-year-old history-sheeter from Mumbai. Despite initial efforts, Rane remained untraceable in Mumbai, but persistent surveillance indicated his movement to Pune Railway Station. The joint team laid a trap and apprehended him on June 15, 2026.

During interrogation, Rane confessed to the theft and was found to be involved in other property-related offenses. A case of theft has been registered with Miraj GRP under relevant sections of the law.

In the second case, two complaints were received regarding thefts from the Bikaner Express on June 27, 2026. The first complainant reported the theft of a ladies' purse containing 60 grams of gold bangles valued at ₹9.05 lakh, while the second complainant reported the theft of a trolley bag containing clothes and artificial jewelry worth ₹50,000.

A joint investigation was launched by RPF Solapur, Crime Intelligence Branch, and GRP Solapur. Detailed examination of CCTV footage showed a suspicious person alighting from the train with the stolen items. Further analysis and intelligence led to the identification of the accused, Rajan Kumar Shrivastav, a 57-year-old resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Shrivastav was apprehended near Gandhi Chowk, Solapur, while attempting to board another train. He confessed to the theft during interrogation and produced the stolen property, which was recovered in full and handed over to GRP Solapur.
