The new centre is expected to make essential passport services more accessible to people living in the remote and strategically important Ladakh district. Until now, residents seeking passport-related services could face difficulties due to the region’s challenging terrain, long distances, and limited access to dedicated facilities.
The LG Governor VK Saxena shared photos of the inauguration on social media and wrote that the new facility will bring essential passport-related services closer to the people, saving them the hassle of travelling to Leh or Srinagar for passport-related works. This facility will particularly benefit those undertaking Haj and other international pilgrimages, apart from education and job-related travels to other countries.
The POPSK was established under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Department of Posts and Passport Seva. The facility is aimed at making government services more accessible to the people, especially in remote areas.
The inauguration of the new POPSK in Kargil is a significant development for the region, as it will reduce the need for people to travel outside the district for passport-related services. The new centre will provide a range of services, including passport application and renewal, and will be a major convenience for the residents of Kargil.
The launch of the new POPSK is part of the government's efforts to make passport services more accessible and convenient for citizens. The government has been working to expand the network of POPSKs across the country, with the aim of providing passport services to all citizens, especially those living in remote and inaccessible areas.
The new facility in Kargil is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of the residents, who will no longer have to travel long distances to access passport-related services. The facility will also help to promote economic development and tourism in the region, by making it easier for people to travel abroad.
