MP Farmers Protest Over Road Compensation

Farmers in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, began an indefinite protest on Thursday at the Jhabua Collectorate, demanding fair compensation for their land acquired for the Badnawar-Timrawani four-lane road.

The protest, organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, started at 1 pm and saw the participation of farmers from the region, who alleged that the compensation fixed by the administration was significantly below the prevailing market rates.

The farmers are demanding compensation at four times the market value, as per applicable provisions. They claimed that earlier protests had been held in phases in Petlawad, Thandla, and Meghnagar, but no concrete action was taken by the authorities.

The farmers had also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during his visit to Thandla on July 31, but they claimed that no action followed. The protesters said they would continue their agitation until their demands were addressed.

The protest saw the participation of women from the farmers' families, who stayed at the protest site overnight and arranged meals there. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh leaders, including Krishna Pal Singh Rathore, Dayaram Patidar, Bachchu Singh Meda, and Vardichand Patidar, led the protest.

Police personnel from Jhabua Kotwali and nearby police stations were deployed at the Collectorate for security. The farmers' protest is a result of their dissatisfaction with the compensation offered for their acquired land, which they believe is not fair.
