West Bengal Gives ₹5 Lakh To 60 Rath Yatra Committees

The West Bengal government has decided to provide financial assistance to 60 traditional Rath Yatra committees in the state. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Monday that each committee will receive ₹5 lakhs.

The decision was made during a coordination meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna to review preparations for the annual Rath Yatra festival on July 16. Adhikari stated that the previous government had only deployed police personnel to the festival, but his government will actively participate in the celebrations.

In addition to the financial aid, the government will also set up 'seva kendra' (Service centers) in five km gaps to provide water and other assistance to pilgrims traveling to Tarakeswar temple during the month of Shravan. These service centers will offer police assistance camps, temporary medical camps, drinking water, ORS, and resting facilities.

The government is also undertaking development works worth ₹15 crore to beautify Tarakeswar Dham. If the weather permits, rose petals will be showered from helicopters over the pilgrims. Other service centers will be set up at Jalpesh Temple in Jalpaiguri and a temple in the Jayanti area near the Bhutan border.

The fairs during the Rath Yatra festival will be managed by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs under the Chief Minister's charge. Adhikari will visit Tarakeshwar temple on July 14 to review the preparations.
