UP Approves ₹425.50 Crore For 250 Electric Buses

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a ₹425.50 crore plan to procure 250 electric buses for the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). The decision aims to modernize the state's public transport system and make it more environmentally friendly.

The plan includes the procurement of 100 electric buses with 50 seats and 150 electric buses with 41 seats. The total estimated expenditure for the project is ₹425.50 crore, with ₹400 crore being provided by the state government and the remaining ₹25.50 crore being arranged by UPSRTC through its own resources.

The induction of these electric buses will help reduce dependence on diesel-powered buses, curb air pollution, and contribute to environmental conservation. The move is also expected to promote industrial activity within the state, as the government has decided to give preference to manufacturers based in Uttar Pradesh during the procurement process.

The decision is significant in view of the environmental standards that will come into force across the National Capital Region (NCR) from November 1, 2026. Only CNG, electric, and BS-6 category vehicles will be permitted to enter Delhi, and the procurement of these electric buses will enable Uttar Pradesh Roadways to comply with these norms.

The initiative will also create new employment opportunities for drivers, conductors, and technical personnel. The deployment of electric buses will provide clean, safe, and modern public transport facilities in the state's major religious, tourist, and urban centers.

The Yogi government's decision to promote the use of electric buses is a step towards reducing the state's carbon footprint and improving air quality. The move is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and public health.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the procurement of electric buses will also help to modernize the state's public transport system. The new buses will be equipped with modern amenities and will provide a comfortable and safe journey for passengers.

The UPSRTC fleet will be strengthened with the induction of these electric buses, and the corporation will be able to provide better services to its passengers. The decision is a significant step towards improving the public transport system in Uttar Pradesh and making it more environmentally friendly.

The state government's decision to promote the use of electric buses is a welcome move, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and public health. The procurement of these buses will help to reduce pollution and improve air quality, making the state a better place to live.

In conclusion, the approval of the ₹425.50 crore plan to procure 250 electric buses for UPSRTC is a significant decision that will help to modernize the state's public transport system and make it more environmentally friendly. The move is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and public health, and it will provide clean, safe, and modern public transport facilities in the state's major centers.
