Vishakha Raut Disqualified As BMC Corporator

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde announced the disqualification of former mayor and Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Vishakha Raut at the BMC General Body meeting on Monday.

The disqualification comes after the Palghar Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee cancelled Raut’s Other Backward Class (OBC) certificate on August 20, citing jurisdictional issues.

The Urban Development Department (UDD) subsequently issued her disqualification order through a Government Resolution (GR) dated September 1.

Raut has accused the civic administration of rushing through the process and alleged a blatant misuse of power.

She plans to pursue all available legal remedies and meet Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to decide the party’s next course of action.

Raut’s disqualification is the second major setback for Shiv Sena (UBT), reducing its strength in the BMC from 65 to 63.

Earlier, party corporator Deepak Sawant was disqualified after his caste certificate was cancelled by the scrutiny committee.

Raut is also the fifth Opposition corporator to lose her seat over a caste certificate issue.

Other disqualified corporators include AIMIM corporators Sameer Ramzan Patel and Roshan Shaikh, along with NCP’s Bushra Nadeem Malik.

The disqualification of these corporators has significant implications for the balance of power in the BMC.

The BMC has been witnessing a series of disqualifications over caste certificate issues, leading to a reduction in the strength of Opposition parties.

This development is likely to have a significant impact on the political landscape of Mumbai.

The disqualification of Vishakha Raut and other corporators has sparked a debate about the use of caste certificates in elections and the need for stricter scrutiny.

The issue is expected to be closely watched by political parties and citizens alike, as it has significant implications for the functioning of the BMC and the representation of various communities in the city.

The BMC is responsible for providing various civic services to the citizens of Mumbai, and the disqualification of corporators can affect the delivery of these services.

The civic body has been facing several challenges in recent times, including issues related to infrastructure, sanitation, and public health.

The disqualification of corporators can further exacerbate these challenges, making it essential for the BMC to ensure that the remaining corporators work efficiently to address the needs of the citizens.

In conclusion, the disqualification of Vishakha Raut and other corporators is a significant development in the political landscape of Mumbai, with far-reaching implications for the balance of power in the BMC and the representation of various communities in the city.
