Insects Found in Khandwa Tribal Hostel Food

Students from the Lal Chowki Tribal Hostel in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, complained to the Collector's office on Friday about the poor quality of food being served in the hostel. The students alleged that insects had been found in their meals and that repeated complaints to the warden had not resolved the issue.

They also highlighted other problems related to hostel facilities, including inadequate cleanliness in the kitchen.

The complaint comes days after nearly 25 girls allegedly fell ill at the Awliya Girls Hostel after being served undercooked rice.

Acting on the complaint, SDM Bajrang Bahadur and the City Magistrate directed the Tehsildar to conduct a surprise inspection of the hostel.

During the inspection, officials reportedly found damp food items, insect infestation, and inadequate cleanliness in the kitchen.

The students also alleged that a security guard, identified as Marko, frequently came to the hostel under the influence of alcohol and misbehaved with students.

However, this allegation has not been independently verified.

NSUI district president Chandan Singh, along with workers Ayan, Karan Patel, and Vijay Tomar, accompanied the students and demanded action against those responsible.

Tribal Welfare Department official Narayan Singh said that the inquiry report into the Awliya incident has not yet reached his office.

He added that both cases would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken if negligence is established.

The incidents have raised questions over the monitoring of hostel food arrangements and the overall condition of tribal hostels in the district.

The Tribal Welfare Department has a responsibility to ensure that the hostels provide a safe and healthy environment for the students.

The department must take immediate action to address the concerns raised by the students and ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future.
