UP Launches Free Bus Travel For Women Above 60

Women aged 60 years and above in Uttar Pradesh can now travel for free on state Roadways buses under the newly launched Lokmata Ahilyabai Matri Shakti Yatra scheme.

The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at an event in Lucknow on Wednesday. According to the government, around 88,438 women passengers will benefit from the scheme every day.

To facilitate free travel, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will issue special smart cards to eligible women aged 60 and above. These cards will help identify beneficiaries and enable them to travel for free on Roadways buses.

The scheme has been named after Ahilyabai Holkar, a symbol of courage and self-respect. In addition to the free travel scheme, the government has also announced a special travel facility for Raksha Bandhan. On August 27, 28, and 29, women will be allowed to travel free on Roadways buses along with one companion.

After the three-day Raksha Bandhan facility, free travel will be available to every woman aged 60 years and above under the new scheme. The chief minister highlighted the importance of women's safety and said that those who threaten the safety of women will face severe consequences.
