7 Dead in Uttarakhand Tunnel Accident

A tragic accident occurred at an under-construction tunnel of the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDC) at Pipalkoti in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, resulting in the deaths of 7 people. The incident happened when water and debris entered the tunnel, trapping several workers inside.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams. A total of 19 people were rescued and brought to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar, where 7 of them were declared dead.

According to Dr. Aayush, 13 people arrived at the hospital in relatively stable condition, and 10 of them were admitted for further treatment. One young man, whose condition was unstable, was referred to the Base Hospital in Srinagar.

The District Magistrate, Gaurav Kumar, visited the site to oversee the rescue operations. The NDRF team commander, Amrit Lal Meena, reported that a large volume of water had entered the tunnel, making it challenging for the rescue team to operate.
