Cyber Conmen Steal ₹12.08 Lakh From 86-Year-Old in Bhopal

An 86-year-old man from Chunabhatti in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, lost ₹12.08 lakh to cyber fraudsters who tricked him into sharing his personal and banking details through a fake senior citizen card link. The victim had clicked on the link on social media, which promised senior citizen cards and benefits for retired people.

The fraudsters then contacted him and obtained his Aadhaar, PAN, and ATM details, and also conducted a video call to collect further information. Around the same time, a female bank employee visited his home and helped him open a fixed deposit (FD) of ₹6 lakh. However, she later warned him that the senior citizen card call was fraudulent.

Despite the warning, the FD was liquidated on the same day it was opened. Two days later, the bank informed the victim's son-in-law that the FD had been closed and the money withdrawn. The victim's phone was also hacked, preventing him from receiving bank alerts.

The Bhopal police have registered a case against unidentified suspects and are investigating the matter. This incident is not isolated, as several other cases of cyber fraud have been reported in Bhopal recently. In another case, a 58-year-old woman lost ₹25,000 after fraudsters sent a link to her WhatsApp.

In a separate incident, ₹81,000 was withdrawn from a 53-year-old man's account without any OTP or link being used. A 19-year-old BTech student also reported losing ₹40,000 from his bank account. The police are investigating all these cases and have warned citizens to be cautious when sharing personal and banking details online.

The rise in cyber fraud cases in Bhopal has raised concerns about the safety of online transactions and the need for citizens to be aware of the risks involved. The police have advised people to be careful when clicking on links or sharing personal details, and to verify the authenticity of any online offers or communications.

The incident highlights the importance of educating citizens about cyber safety and the need for banks and financial institutions to have robust security measures in place to prevent such frauds. The police are working to identify the suspects and bring them to justice.

The case is a reminder that cyber fraud can happen to anyone, and it is essential for citizens to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves. The Bhopal police are taking steps to increase awareness about cyber safety and to prevent such incidents in the future.

In conclusion, the incident of cyber fraud in Bhopal is a serious concern, and it is essential for citizens to be aware of the risks involved and take necessary precautions to protect themselves.
