Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has reported a strong operational performance for the quarter ended June 2026, with a 23% rise in profit after tax to Rs 13,492 crore. The company's Value of New Business (VNB) surged 61.3% to Rs 3,136 crore, exceeding street estimates of Rs 2,638 crore.

The VNB margin expanded by 750 basis points to 22.9%, compared to 15.4% in the corresponding quarter last year, and also surpassed the estimated 17.8%. Total premium income increased 6.8% to Rs 1.27 lakh crore, with individual new business premium income growing 14.5% to Rs 14,351 crore.

The company's Annualised Premium Equivalent (APE) increased 8.2% year-on-year to Rs 13,692 crore, although this was below market expectations of Rs 14,841 crore. Individual business contributed Rs 7,532 crore to total APE, representing 6.7% annual growth, while group business APE increased 10.2% to Rs 6,160 crore.

LIC's product mix has improved, with non-participating APE within the individual business climbing 14.2% to Rs 2,447 crore. Its share in the individual business mix improved to 32.5% from 30.3% a year earlier.
