Leopard Kills Calves in MP Village

A leopard entered a cattle shed in Kogawan village, Kasrawad, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, killing two young calves. The calves, aged around 16 to 17 months, died instantly due to severe injuries.

The leopard was spotted roaming near the cattle shed before the attack. Eyewitness Biju claimed to have seen the animal near the premises shortly before the incident.

Villagers immediately alerted the Forest Department after the attack. A team from the Pipalgone Forest Range visited the village and inspected the site. They found deep bite marks and other evidence on the carcasses, confirming that a leopard was responsible for the attack.

A panchnama was prepared, and post-mortem examinations were conducted. Forest Range Assistant Omkar Dawar said the department has registered the case and initiated the compensation process for livestock loss as per government norms.

The attack has created fear among residents, who are concerned about the increasing movement of leopards in the area. They have urged the Forest Department to intensify patrolling and take effective measures to ensure the safety of residents and livestock.

The incident highlights the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region. As leopards continue to venture into human settlements, the risk of attacks on humans and livestock increases.

The Forest Department has a crucial role to play in mitigating this conflict. By increasing patrolling and taking measures to prevent leopard sightings, they can help reduce the risk of attacks.

The compensation process initiated by the Forest Department will provide some relief to the affected villagers. However, more needs to be done to address the root cause of the problem.

The incident is a reminder of the need for coexistence between humans and wildlife. As the human population expands, it is essential to find ways to peacefully coexist with wildlife, rather than conflicting with them.

In conclusion, the leopard attack in Kogawan village has highlighted the need for increased vigilance and measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The Forest Department and local residents must work together to ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife in the region.
