Mumbai Police Commissioner Updates On Crime, Cyber Fraud

Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti recently addressed the media to provide updates on various ongoing investigations and enforcement drives in the city.

He spoke about the threats allegedly issued to actor Aamir Khan by an accused linked to the Baba Siddique murder case, stating that the Crime Branch is conducting an inquiry. The Commissioner shared figures on action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Mumbai, with 326 cases/persons acted against in 2024, 1,161 in 2025, and 1,066 so far in 2026. He also announced the start of a deportation detention centre.

Mumbai Police has intensified its awareness campaign against cyber fraud, particularly digital arrest scams. Bharti said that awareness campaigns have been conducted through 1930, with police personnel visiting senior citizens door-to-door and conducting awareness programmes in schools and colleges. The percentage of fraud money frozen has increased significantly, from 4.5% in 2022 to 28% in 2026, with police reportedly freezing ₹186 crore.

The city's police force has also taken action against habitual criminals, with a focus on traffic violations and mobile theft. Bharti stated that action will be taken against anyone violating the permissible noise levels during the upcoming festive season.
