Mumbai Coastal Road Opens with Strict Traffic Rules

Mumbai's Coastal Road has been opened for traffic in both southbound and northbound directions between Marine Drive and Bandra Toll Plaza.

The Mumbai Traffic Police have issued a press note outlining traffic restrictions, entry and exit points, prohibited vehicles and speed limits on the Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road and the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link.

For southbound traffic, entry points include Bandra Toll Plaza, J.K. Kapoor Circle Underpass, Swa. Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, Barrister Rajni Patel Junction, Vatsalabai Desai Junction, and Amarsons Garden. Exit points for southbound traffic are Worli Sea Link Gate 2, Barrister Rajni Patel Junction, Vatsalabai Desai Junction, Amarsons Garden, and Marine Drive.

For northbound traffic, entry points include Marine Drive, Amarsons Garden, Vatsalabai Desai Junction, Barrister Rajni Patel Junction, Swa. Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, and J.K. Kapoor Circle Underpass. Exit points for northbound traffic are Amarsons Garden, Vatsalabai Desai Junction, Barrister Rajni Patel Junction, Swa. Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, Worli Sea Link Gate 6, and Bandra Toll Plaza.

Certain vehicles are prohibited from entering the Coastal Road and Sea Link, including goods carrier vehicles, tempos, trucks, trailers, mixers, tractors, and heavy vehicles, except BEST buses and passenger-carrying vehicles. Two-wheelers, bicycles, mopeds, adapted vehicles, and scooters are also restricted.

Speed limits have been set at a maximum of 80 kmph on straight roads, 60 kmph inside tunnels, and 40 kmph at turning points and road mergers.

Activities such as vehicle stopping or halting, picking up or dropping passengers, except BEST buses, and photography or video recording are strictly prohibited on the road.

The Coastal Road is a significant infrastructure project in Mumbai, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between the city's southern and western suburbs.
