UP Increases Bus Services for Raksha Bandhan

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has increased bus services to cater to the increased passenger rush during the Raksha Bandhan festival. From August 26 to 31, the maximum possible number of buses will be operated to major destinations like Lucknow, Kanpur, and others.

The decision comes after the Yogi government announced free bus travel for women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. To ensure smooth and safe travel, additional staff and supervisors have been deployed at major bus stations. These stations include Anand Vihar, Kaushambi, Kashmiri Gate, Moradabad, Meerut, Bareilly, Kaisarbagh, Alambagh, Charbagh, Awadh Depot, Saharanpur, ISBT Agra, Masoodabad in Aligarh, Jhakarkati in Kanpur, and Etawah.

The Transport Corporation has instructed all buses to pick up passengers from designated stops and has intensified route checking. Supervisors will be present at bus stations continuously to ensure passenger convenience. The emphasis is on providing better transport facilities not only to women but to all passengers during the festival period.

To encourage maximum deployment of buses, a special incentive scheme has been introduced for bus operating staff. Drivers and conductors who complete 1,800 kilometers of bus operations during the six-day period will be eligible for an incentive of ₹1,200. For operations exceeding 1,800 kilometers, contractual drivers and conductors will receive additional payment at the rate of 55 paise per additional kilometer.

Regional managers have been directed to monitor the availability of buses at bus stations and deploy additional buses according to demand. They have also been instructed to ensure that passengers can board buses at intermediate stops and be transported to their respective destinations, in view of overcrowding.

The arrangements made by the UPSRTC aim to provide smooth and convenient travel to passengers during the Raksha Bandhan festival. With the increased bus services and deployment of extra staff, the corporation hopes to cater to the large number of passengers traveling during this period.
