UP Govt Launches ₹19.1 Crore Water Project In Bundelkhand

The Yogi Government in Uttar Pradesh has launched the India-Israel Bundelkhand Water Project to tackle the water crisis in the region. The project, worth ₹19.1 crore, aims to promote water conservation, irrigation efficiency, and modern agricultural technology in Gangawali village, Jhansi.

The mini pilot project has already seen significant progress, with major works such as earthwork and geomembrane lining of the reservoir, installation of a solar pump, and construction of PUF panel-based buildings completed. The project integrates water conservation, water storage, solar energy, micro-irrigation, and modern agricultural technologies to provide farmers with a practical model for better irrigation and farming using limited water resources.

According to Dr. Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, Special Secretary, Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, the objective of this initiative is to develop a model suited to the local water availability and agricultural conditions of Bundelkhand. The project will demonstrate modern agricultural activities over an area of 8.5 hectares and will include drip- and sprinkler-based micro-irrigation systems, greenhouses, tunnels, pipelines, and an irrigation automation-SCADA system.

The progress of the project in Gangawali is now visible on the ground, with demarcation and fencing of the reservoir area, earthwork and geomembrane lining of the reservoir, and construction of PUF panel-based buildings completed. A solar pump has been installed, and a natural STP has been constructed to prevent wastewater from reaching the reservoir.

In the next phase, works related to micro-irrigation, greenhouses, irrigation automation, and farmer training will be taken forward. The project will evaluate the results of these technologies on parameters such as water consumption and crop production.
