Yogi Govt Supports 17,758 Mass Marriages in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been providing strong support for dignified marriages of daughters from economically weaker families through the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana.

As of now, the scheme has solemnized the marriages of 17,758 couples during the financial year 2026-27. The government aims to conduct 72,448 mass marriages across the state during the current financial year.

A total of 72,787 applications have been received under the scheme, out of which 20,042 have been approved and 7,245 have been found ineligible. The government is focused on ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach eligible beneficiaries in a transparent manner.

Pilibhit has emerged as the leading district in conducting marriages under the scheme, with 1,271 couples benefiting from it. Shahjahanpur ranks second with 1,063 marriages, followed by Sultanpur and Rampur with 1,040 and 1,031 marriages, respectively.

The Minister of State for Social Welfare, Aseem Arun, stated that the government is committed to ensuring that financial hardship does not become an obstacle to the dignified marriage of any daughter. He added that the scheme is being implemented with complete transparency, using technology to verify applicants and transfer financial assistance directly into their bank accounts.

The Director of the Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Singh, said that an e-KYC mechanism has been introduced for applicant verification, and income and caste certificates are being digitally verified through the e-District portal. An Aadhaar-based payment system will soon be implemented to enable financial assistance to be transferred directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.

Under the scheme, each couple is provided with financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh, which includes Rs 64,000 for establishing the household, Rs 21,000 for wedding gift materials, and Rs 15,000 for arrangements related to the marriage ceremony.

The continuous organisation of mass marriage ceremonies across districts is helping to accelerate the implementation of the scheme at the grassroots level. The government's efforts to provide financial assistance for marriages are expected to bring relief to a large number of needy families.

The success of the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana is a significant step towards ensuring that daughters from economically weaker families can have dignified marriages. The scheme's focus on transparency and the use of technology to verify applicants and transfer financial assistance are expected to make it a model for other states to follow.

In conclusion, the Uttar Pradesh government's mass marriage scheme is gaining momentum, and its success is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of many families in the state. The government's commitment to transparency and the use of technology are key factors in the scheme's success, and it is likely to be replicated in other states in the future.
