Pune To Restore Alternate-Day Water Supply

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that it will resume alternate-day water supply across the city from July 15. This decision comes as water levels in the dams remain below the required level, despite recent rainfall.

The civic body had temporarily stopped the water cut after heavy rainfall over the past ten days improved water storage. However, the recent rainfall has not been enough to fully replenish the dams that supply water to Pune.

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said the decision to restore alternate-day water supply is necessary to ensure enough water is available for the months ahead. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram added that continuing normal daily water supply is not possible unless the dams receive more rainfall.

The Khadakwasla dam has reached full capacity, but the Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams are only around half full. Overall, water storage is still insufficient to meet the city's long-term needs.

The PMC had first introduced alternate-day water supply on June 15, which caused inconvenience to many residents due to reduced water availability. The restrictions were later withdrawn during the palkhi period, but are now being reintroduced based on the current water situation.

The water situation remains a concern as rainfall has reduced after the recent spell. The PMC has decided to restore alternate-day water supply from July 15 to conserve water and ensure adequate supply in the coming months.

This move is expected to affect thousands of residents in Pune, who will have to adjust to the new water supply schedule. The civic body is taking this step to avoid any water shortage during the upcoming months.

In recent years, Pune has faced water shortages due to inadequate rainfall and increasing demand for water. The PMC has been working to improve the city's water supply infrastructure, but the current situation remains a challenge.

The decision to restore alternate-day water supply is a precautionary measure to ensure that the city has enough water to meet its needs. The PMC will continue to monitor the water situation and adjust the supply schedule as needed.

The resumption of alternate-day water supply from July 15 is a reminder of the importance of water conservation and the need for sustainable water management practices in Pune.

As the city prepares for the upcoming months, residents are advised to take steps to conserve water and reduce their usage. The PMC will also be working to educate residents on the importance of water conservation and the need to use water efficiently.

In conclusion, the restoration of alternate-day water supply in Pune from July 15 is a necessary step to ensure that the city has enough water to meet its needs. The civic body is taking proactive measures to address the water shortage, and residents are advised to cooperate and take steps to conserve water.
