A strong weather system has brought heavy rain to eastern Madhya Pradesh, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the state.

The districts of Dindori and Balaghat have been placed under an orange alert, with the possibility of receiving around 4 to 8 inches of rainfall over the next 24 hours.

A heavy rain warning has also been issued for several other districts, including Vidisha, Sagar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Seoni, Jabalpur, Mandla, Katni, Umaria, Shahdol, Anuppur, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Chhatarpur.

Meanwhile, other parts of the state, including Bhopal, Sehore, Rajgarh, Indore, Dhar, Alirajpur, Burhanpur, Barwani, Khandwa, Khargone, Jhabua, Ujjain, Neemuch, Agar Malwa, Mandsaur, Shajapur, Dewas, Ratlam, Harda, Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Datia, Ashoknagar, Morena, Bhind, Sheopur, Satna, Singrauli, Maihar, Panna, Tikamgarh, and Niwari, may receive light to heavy rainfall at different places.

Bhopal received heavy rain on Sunday night, with Lateri town in Vidisha district experiencing waterlogging in the main market due to heavy rainfall.

According to weather expert Shailendra Kumar Nayak, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in parts of Madhya Pradesh until August 27, with some western parts of the state also expected to receive heavy rain.

The IMD has reported that Madhya Pradesh has received 629.8 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, which is around 3 inches less than the normal rainfall for this period.

Overall, the state has received around 11% less rainfall than normal, with eastern Madhya Pradesh recording an 8% deficit and western Madhya Pradesh recording a 14% deficit.

The heavy rainfall has led to disruptions in some areas, with waterlogging reported in several places.
