Congress Workers, Police Clash in Rewa Protest

A clash broke out between police and Congress workers in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday during a protest over the death of a pregnant woman, Kalpana Mishra, and her newborn child at a government hospital.

The protest turned violent when hundreds of Congress workers tried to cross the barricades near Sirmour Square, prompting police to fire tear gas shells.

Jhabua MLA and Congress leader Vikrant Bhuria sustained an eye injury during the scuffle, alleging that a policeman hit him with a baton.

Congress has been staging a protest at Agrasen Square for the past five days, demanding action over Mishra's death.

On Thursday, hundreds of party workers and leaders marched towards Sirmour Square, where Mishra's father has been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past nine days.

Congress state president Jitu Patwari joined the protest and later met Mishra's father, promising to raise the issue in the Assembly and meet the Governor and Chief Secretary to demand justice.

According to police, Congress workers attempted to break through the barricades, leading to a scuffle with police personnel.

In a related development, junior doctors at Shyam Shah Medical College and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa have boycotted OPD and elective services, citing concerns over workplace safety and alleged incidents of violence and misbehaviour with doctors.

The Junior Doctors Association has demanded stronger security arrangements and a one-attendant-per-patient rule.

While routine hospital services have been affected, emergency and critical care services will continue uninterrupted.

The clash and boycott have highlighted the escalating tensions in Rewa over the death of Kalpana Mishra and her newborn child.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with the Congress party demanding accountability and justice for the family.

The state government has faced criticism over the handling of the case, with opposition parties alleging negligence and incompetence.
