Nitesh Rane Reviews ₹4 Crore Sindhudurg Ferry Proposal

Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane reviewed a proposal for a modern ferryboat service in Sindhudurg district on Monday. The proposed service aims to strengthen inland water transport in the district and will operate on five routes: Kerlai-Tarkarli, Kali-Devgad, Devbag-Nivati, Vijaydurg-Ansuray-Dande, and Aronda-Kiranpani.

The pilot ferry service will be introduced between Kerlai and Tarkarli, reducing travel time from 1.5 to 2 hours by road to around 15 minutes by water. The proposed ferry will be 20 metres long and 7.5 metres wide, with a single deck to carry passengers, four-wheelers, and two-wheelers.

Officials and private companies, including Praka Engineering Shipyard, made presentations on the construction, operation, and maintenance of the ferries under possible Built & Operate (BOO), Built, Operate & Transfer (BOT), or Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models.
