FDA Cracks Down On 3 Bhopal Eateries Over Food Safety

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted inspections at three major hotels/restaurants in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, as part of its anti-adulteration drive.

The inspections were carried out at Rajhans, Indian Coffee House (ICH), and Dragon House, located in MP Nagar Zone-1, Bhopal. At Dragon House, FDA officials found five packets of mushrooms in a rotten and spoiled condition.

Additionally, packets of expired spices were discovered, bearing marks that indicated they had been gnawed by rats. Rats were also found in the kitchen, highlighting the poor sanitary and hygiene conditions at the establishment.

There were no separate arrangements for the storage and processing of non-vegetarian food items, and no separate utensils or freezers were found for non-vegetarian food items. Two cooking pans were almost black due to a lack of cleaning, and the drainage system was inadequate.

A sample of loose oil was collected for quality testing. At Rajhans, MP Nagar, two dustbins were found uncovered, and one packet of mushrooms was found rotten. Records regarding the medical check-up of 15 employees were not available, and a potability report for drinking water was also unavailable.

A physical verification of cottage cheese was conducted, and one sample was collected for testing due to doubts about the cheese quality, which was priced at Rs 250 per kg. The FDA's crackdown on these eateries highlights the need for stricter food safety regulations in Bhopal.
