President Murmu To Honour 48 Teachers On September 5

President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards on 48 outstanding school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5, marking the occasion of Teachers' Day 2026.

The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, organises this national-level function every year to honour teachers who have made significant contributions to improving the quality of school education.

This year, a total of 48 school teachers have been selected for the award through a rigorous, transparent, and online selection process. The selection process involved a three-stage evaluation at the district, state, and national levels.

The awardees include teachers from 27 states, seven Union Territories, and six organisations of the Central Government. Of the 48 selected teachers, 26 are men, and 22 are women.

The National Teachers Awards recognise the contribution of some of the country's finest teachers and honour those who have enriched the lives of their students through their commitment and dedication.

Online self-nominations from eligible teachers were invited through the Ministry of Education's portal from June 15 to July 20. The list of awardees has been released separately and is not arranged in any particular order of merit.

The event will be telecast live on Doordarshan and the SWAYAM PRABHA channels of the Ministry of Education. It will also be streamed live on the Ministry's official webcast platform and across its social media channels.

Short documentaries highlighting the exemplary work and contributions of each awardee will also be showcased during the event. One of the awardees is Kunda Bachhav, a teacher from a Mumbai Municipal School.

The National Teachers Awards are a testament to the government's efforts to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and dedication of teachers who play a vital role in shaping the future of the country.

The event is expected to inspire and motivate teachers across the country to continue their good work and strive for excellence in education.

The recognition of outstanding teachers is crucial in improving the quality of education in the country. It not only acknowledges their contributions but also encourages others to follow in their footsteps.

In conclusion, the National Teachers Awards 2026 is a significant event that recognises the contributions of exceptional teachers and their impact on the education system. The event will be a celebration of the teaching community and their dedication to providing quality education to students across the country.
