Indore Restricts Heavy Vehicles On Khandwa Road For Shravan

The district administration of Indore has announced traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles on the Indore-Khandwa Road during the Shravan period. This move aims to ensure the safety of thousands of Kanwar pilgrims who travel between Indore and Omkareshwar via the Simrol route every year.

According to the order issued by Collector and District Magistrate Shivam Verma, the movement of trucks and other heavy goods vehicles on the Indore-Khandwa route will be prohibited daily from 6 am to 11 pm from July 30 to August 28.

The restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of accidents and congestion on the route, which is a major pilgrimage corridor. Heavy vehicles travelling between Indore and Khandwa will be diverted via an alternative route that includes Tejaji Nagar, Rau Circle, AB Road, Manpur, Balkawada, and Deshgaon.

However, certain vehicles will be exempt from the restrictions, including milk tankers, ambulances, police and fire brigade vehicles, water tankers, army vehicles, electricity department vehicles, LPG and petroleum tankers, and vehicles carrying vegetables to agricultural markets. Passenger buses will also be allowed to ply on the route as usual.

The administration has clarified that the restrictions apply only to heavy goods vehicles, and cars, jeeps, two-wheelers, and other light vehicles will not be affected. This decision is expected to benefit thousands of pilgrims who travel from Indore to Omkareshwar during the Shravan period.

The Indore-Omkareshwar route is one of the busiest pilgrimage corridors in Madhya Pradesh, with thousands of Kanwariyas passing through the city every day during Shravan. To manage the heavy traffic and ensure a safe pilgrimage, the police, civic agencies, and volunteers work together to provide traffic management, security, drinking water, and emergency medical services.
