UP Energy Minister Acts Against Officials Over Power Failures

The Uttar Pradesh Government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is taking stringent measures to ensure uninterrupted and safe electricity supply to the people of the state.

In a high-level review meeting, Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma emphasized that providing timely electricity to the public is the government's highest priority and negligence at any level will not be tolerated.

The Minister directed the Managing Director of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited to expedite the disposal of consumer complaints across the Purvanchal region. He instructed that officers who are not performing their duties with honesty and seriousness should be removed without delay.

With the Kanwar Yatra in view, Minister Sharma instructed all officials to ensure adequate electrical safety arrangements along the pilgrimage routes. Any exposed electrical equipment or potential hazards should be removed immediately, and special monitoring should be maintained to ensure uninterrupted power supply along the routes.

During the review, Minister Sharma expressed serious displeasure over interruptions in power supply and the failure to replace burnt transformers on time in districts including Deoria, Ghazipur, Shravasti, Bahraich, and Fatehpur. He sought explanations from the concerned Executive Engineers and stated that accountability would be fixed in every case where public inconvenience had been caused due to negligence.

In Deoria district's Lar police station area, where a burnt transformer had not been replaced for the past ten days, the local officials failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, an adverse entry was issued against the Chief Engineer, Gorakhpur (II).

Similarly, in the Gahmar area of Ghazipur district, where a burnt transformer had remained unreplaced for 12 days, instructions were issued to suspend the Executive Engineer due to his absence from the review meeting. The concerned Superintending Engineer was also given a stern warning.

The meeting was attended by senior departmental officials, including Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal and Managing Director Nitesh Kumar, while officers from across the state participated virtually.
