In Vedic astrology the Eleventh House is known as the Labha Bhava, literally the “house of gains.” It governs income, profits, the fulfilment of desires, elder siblings and the wide circle of friends and well-wishers that helps a person prosper. Regarded as one of the most naturally benefic houses in the horoscope, a strong Labha Bhava is classically linked to steady earnings and the realisation of one’s ambitions.

The significance of the Labha Bhava
The eleventh house is called Labha Bhava (labha meaning gain, profit or acquisition) and is also referred to as the Aya Bhava (aya meaning income or incoming wealth). Where the second house shows accumulated wealth and the tenth house shows one’s profession, the eleventh shows the fruits of effort: the money, recognition and benefits that actually flow in.
It is counted among the Upachaya houses (the “growing” houses: the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th), which are said to strengthen and improve as life advances. It is also the strongest of the three Kama trikona houses (3rd, 7th and 11th), the trine of desire and worldly fulfilment. Because of this dual character, classical texts such as the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra treat the eleventh as a house where even natural malefics can give handsome results.
What the eleventh house governs
- Gains and income (labha): recurring earnings, profits, bonuses, dividends, windfalls and the return on investments.
- Fulfilment of desires (sarva-kama-siddhi): the ability to see wishes and ambitions realised.
- Elder siblings: elder brothers and sisters, and one’s relationship with them (the third house, by contrast, signifies younger siblings).
- Friends and social circle: friends, mentors, patrons, well-wishers and professional networks.
- Honours and recognition: awards, titles, prestige and gains through social standing.
- The body: in the Kalapurusha (cosmic body) scheme it rules the shins, ankles and the left ear.
Natural ruler and karaka
The eleventh sign of the natural zodiac is Aquarius (Kumbha), ruled by Saturn (Shani), so the eleventh house carries an underlying Saturnine flavour of persistence, community and long-term reward. The natural significator, or karaka, of gains is Jupiter (Brihaspati), the planet of wealth, expansion and good fortune. A well-placed Jupiter is therefore especially valued for matters of income, while the actual lord of the eleventh house in a given chart shows how and from where gains arrive.
Planets in the eleventh house
Because the eleventh is an Upachaya and a house of desire, most planets tend to give profitable results here, though the flavour differs.
- Sun: gains through authority, government, father or a strong reputation; helpful elder siblings, though ego in friendships is possible.
- Moon: income through the public, many social contacts and popularity; earnings may fluctuate with the mind and moods.
- Mars: gains through effort, property, engineering or courage; a capable elder brother, but occasional friction with friends.
- Mercury: excellent for trade, commerce, writing and networking; profit through communication and a wide circle.
- Jupiter: as karaka in its own house of gains, this is highly favoured for wealth, wisdom, benefic friends and the fulfilment of desires.
- Venus: income through luxury, art, vehicles, women or partnerships; a pleasant and rewarding social life.
- Saturn: steady, hard-earned and lasting gains through discipline, service and elder or senior contacts; slow but durable.
- Rahu: strong desire for gain and often large or unconventional income; ambitions magnified, sometimes restlessly.
- Ketu: gains that come and go, or contentment that reduces the hunger for accumulation; detachment from friends at times.
The eleventh lord in different houses
The Labha lord’s placement shows the source of income and the strength of one’s aspirations:
| 11th lord placed in | Traditional indication |
|---|---|
| 1st | Self-effort brings gains; ambitious and often prosperous |
| 2nd | Income directly builds family wealth and savings |
| 5th | Gains through speculation, education, children, creativity |
| 7th | Profit through partnerships, spouse and business |
| 10th | Strong earnings through career; a classic wealth combination |
| 11th (own) | Very favourable; steady, well-multiplied income and loyal friends |
| 6th, 8th, 12th | Gains come with obstacles, debt or foreign/expenditure links |
Wealth yogas and the eleventh house
In classical wealth analysis, the eleventh house is one of the four Dhana (wealth) houses — the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th. When the lords of these houses connect by conjunction, aspect or exchange, they form Dhana yogas, the classical combinations for prosperity. A particularly prized link is between the second house of assets, the ninth house of fortune and the eleventh house of gains, since together they show wealth that is earned, fortunate and retained. To see how these are timed in life, read Vimshottari dasha explained.
The eleventh and sixth house axis
A subtle classical point: the eleventh house is the sixth from the sixth (the house of debt, competition and enemies counted onward). Because of this, a strong eleventh house is traditionally said to help overcome debts and defeat rivals, turning competition into gain. It is the reason astrologers read the sixth house of debts and enemies together with the eleventh when judging financial recovery and hard-won success.
The eleventh house, friends and elder siblings
Beyond money, the Labha Bhava is the great house of community. It governs friends, mentors, patrons and the professional network — the web of goodwill through which so many gains actually arrive. A strong eleventh house is classically linked with a wide, loyal and influential circle, while an afflicted one can bring unreliable friends or gains that come only through effort. The house also signifies elder siblings — elder brothers and sisters and one’s bond with them — in contrast to the third house, which rules younger siblings. Because friendship and elder support are read as living sources of prosperity, tradition treats warm, honest relationships as a remedy in their own right.
Reading the eleventh house: a simple checklist
To judge the Labha Bhava in any chart, astrologers weigh several factors together rather than any single one:
- The sign on the eleventh house and its natural character.
- The placement, dignity and strength of the eleventh lord — where the gains come from.
- The condition of the karaka Jupiter, the significator of wealth.
- Planets placed in the eleventh and any aspects upon it.
- Dhana yoga links between the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th lords.
- The running dasha and transits that time when gains ripen.
Read together, these give a balanced picture; read in isolation, any one of them can mislead.
Positive and challenging indications
When the eleventh house is strong
A strong Labha Bhava — its lord well placed and dignified, benefics or the karaka Jupiter supporting it — is traditionally associated with dependable income from more than one source, easy fulfilment of ambitions, an influential and loyal social circle, and cordial ties with elder siblings. Since the eleventh is the house of aya, its strength often shows up as improving finances over the years, in keeping with its Upachaya nature.
When the eleventh house is afflicted
When the eleventh lord is weak, combust or placed in a difficult house, or when malefics such as an ill-disposed Saturn, Rahu or Ketu trouble it, classical texts caution about unfulfilled desires, unstable income, disputes over money, unreliable friends, or distance from elder siblings. This is read as a call for patience and prudence rather than as a fixed misfortune; the Upachaya houses are precisely the ones believed to reward sustained effort over time.
Aspects on the eleventh house
As with every bhava, the eleventh house is coloured by the planets that aspect it, not just those placed in it. A benefic aspect from Jupiter — the karaka of gains — on the eleventh house or its lord is one of the classic supports for prosperity, and aspects from a dignified Mercury or Venus can favour income through trade, communication or the arts. Even the aspects of natural malefics such as Saturn and Mars are often welcome here, because the eleventh is an Upachaya house where their pressure translates into hard-won, durable gain. A full reading weighs these aspects alongside the placement of the eleventh lord and the karaka Jupiter.
The eleventh house in transits and dasha
Timing matters as much as promise. The flow of gains is read from the moving planetary periods and transits:
- The dasha (period) of the eleventh lord or of a well-placed planet in the eleventh often coincides with rising income and fulfilled ambitions. See Vimshottari dasha explained.
- The transit of Jupiter through the eleventh house is classically watched as a window of expansion, opportunity and gain.
- The transit of Saturn through the eleventh is traditionally regarded as favourable for steady, earned increase — one of Saturn’s better transits — rewarding sustained effort.
None of these guarantees a specific sum; they describe the seasons in which the eleventh house’s promise tends to ripen.
The eleventh house, career and desire
Where the tenth house shows the work — one’s profession, status and public role — the eleventh shows the reward that work brings: the salary, the profit, the recognition and the network that lifts a career higher. This is why astrologers read the tenth and eleventh together for questions of income and success. As the strongest of the Kama trikona houses, the eleventh also governs the sheer force of one’s desires and ambitions; a powerful eleventh house gives big appetites and, when supported, the means to satisfy them. The tradition gently notes that its gains are best enjoyed when balanced by the giving and letting-go of the twelfth house that follows it — for accumulation without generosity, the classics say, brings little peace.
Traditional remedies
The following are drawn from tradition and belief. They are offered as customary spiritual and devotional practices, not as guaranteed financial, medical or legal outcomes; sound worldly planning should always accompany them. See also the planetary remedies overview.
- Strengthen the karaka Jupiter: worship of Lord Vishnu or the guru, observing a Thursday routine, and offering respect to teachers and elders are classically recommended to support gains.
- Mantra: devotees chant the Jupiter (Brihaspati) beeja mantra “Om Gram Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah”, or recite the Vishnu Sahasranama, on Thursdays.
- Daan (charity): donating yellow items such as turmeric, gram dal, bananas, yellow cloth or gold to a temple or the needy on a Thursday is a traditional way of honouring the significator of wealth.
- Fasting (vrat): a Thursday fast dedicated to Vishnu or Brihaspati is commonly observed for prosperity and the fulfilment of wishes.
- Gemstone: yellow sapphire (Pukhraj) for Jupiter is worn only after proper astrological consultation; if the eleventh lord is another planet, the corresponding stone (for example blue sapphire for Saturn) is considered instead, again only on advice.
- Deity and conduct: maintaining warm, honest relations with friends and elder siblings, and offering seva (selfless service) to one’s community, is itself regarded as a living remedy for the Labha Bhava, whose gains flow through networks and goodwill.
