Emraan Hashmi (born Syed Emraan Anwar Hashmi in 1979) is an Indian actor who works in Hindi cinema. He made his debut in Footpath (2003) and broke through with the erotic thriller Murder (2004), going on to headline a run of commercially successful thrillers and romantic dramas, many produced by the Bhatt family's Vishesh Films and built around chart-topping soundtracks. Initially typecast for his bold, romance-heavy roles, he later earned critical praise for more layered characters in films such as Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, The Dirty Picture and Shanghai. He remains a busy leading man, appearing in large-scale projects including the spy thriller Tiger 3 (2023), in which he played the antagonist.

Honours: Multiple Filmfare Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and Shanghai; no competitive National Film Award or Filmfare wins to date.

His real name is Syed Emraan Anwar Hashmi, and he is a nephew of filmmaker brothers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, whose Vishesh Films produced many of his early hits.
Before turning actor he worked as an assistant director on the Vishesh Films horror hit Raaz (2002), and later played the lead in its 2009 sequel, Raaz: The Mystery Continues.
Early in his career he was dubbed Bollywood's 'serial kisser' for the bold kissing scenes in his films, a label he later shed with unconventional, critically praised roles.
In 2016 he co-authored the book 'The Kiss of Life', chronicling his young son Ayaan's battle with cancer.
Kishore Kumar had no formal training in classical music, yet became one of the most influential playback singers ever.
Aamir Khan’s Lagaan (2001) is one of only three Indian films nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
The song “Mere Sapno Ki Rani” from Aradhana was famously picturised on a moving toy train in Darjeeling.
