Mithun Chakraborty

Mithun Chakraborty, born Gouranga Chakraborty in 1950, is an Indian actor whose career spans nearly five decades and roughly 350 films across Hindi, Bengali and several other languages. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor on his debut in Mrinal Sen's art-house drama Mrigayaa (1976), then became a mainstream box-office star through the espionage thriller Surakksha and the global dance hit Disco Dancer. He is admired for a rare range that stretches from commercial dance and action vehicles to acclaimed parallel-cinema roles. Beyond acting he has worked as a film producer and entrepreneur and has been active in Indian politics.

Honours: Three National Film Awards (Best Actor for Mrigayaa and Tahader Katha; Best Supporting Actor for Swami Vivekananda), a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Agneepath, the Padma Bhushan (2024), and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2022.
