Taapsee Pannu is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Hindi cinema, alongside Telugu and Tamil films. A former software engineer and model, she built her reputation by choosing woman-centric and socially conscious films rather than conventional heroine roles. Her performances in the courtroom drama Pink, the thriller Badla and the social drama Thappad established her among the leading actresses of content-driven Hindi cinema. She is also widely recognised as a vocal advocate for stronger female roles and pay parity in the industry.

Honours: Two Filmfare Awards: the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Thappad (66th Filmfare Awards, for the 2020 film) and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for Saand Ki Aankh (for the 2019 film), which she shared jointly with co-star Bhumi Pednekar.

Trained as a computer science engineer and briefly worked in IT before modelling, she moved into films after winning titles at the 2008 Femina Miss India pageant and appearing on Channel V's talent show Get Gorgeous.
She made her screen debut not in Bollywood but in Telugu cinema, with the 2010 film Jhummandi Naadam, and only entered Hindi films in 2013 with Chashme Baddoor.
For the biopic Saand Ki Aankh she played real-life septuagenarian sharpshooter Prakashi Tomar, transforming into a woman decades older than herself while still in her early thirties.
She is known for anchoring female-led, issue-driven films and for being outspoken about gender equality and pay disparity in the film industry.
The song “Mere Sapno Ki Rani” from Aradhana was famously picturised on a moving toy train in Darjeeling.
