E20 Fuels Demand For Premium Petrol
Vehicle owners opt for premium petrol despite higher price, citing engine concerns. Demand rises by 20%.

A significant shift is being observed in the fuel preferences of vehicle owners in Madhya Pradesh, with a growing number opting for premium petrol over the newly introduced E20 fuel. This change in preference has led to a 20% increase in demand for premium petrol, according to petrol pump dealers in the state. The primary reason behind this shift is the concern that ethanol-blended fuel could potentially affect engine performance.
The E20 petrol, which is now widely available at fuel stations across Madhya Pradesh, has sparked worries among vehicle owners about its impact on their vehicles' engines. As a result, many are willing to pay the higher price for premium petrol, which they believe is safer for their vehicles. Amit Singh, secretary of the Gwalior District Petroleum Dealers Association, noted that the demand for premium petrol was previously limited, but the introduction of E20 fuel has changed consumer preferences.
Despite premium petrol costing Rs 8-9 more per litre than regular fuel, vehicle owners are opting for it to avoid potential engine-related issues. However, fuel sector experts have clarified that premium petrol is not entirely ethanol-free. It contains the same base petrol blended with performance-enhancing additives that help keep engine components cleaner and improve combustion efficiency.
Ajay Singh, president of the Petrol Dealers Association, stated that most new vehicles are designed to run on E20 fuel, but some older vehicles may experience temporary issues such as rough idling or misfiring after switching to ethanol-blended petrol. He explained that ethanol can loosen deposits accumulated in the fuel system over time, which may initially affect engine performance. Nevertheless, cleaning the fuel tank and fuel system usually resolves the problem.
The rise in demand for premium petrol is expected to continue as vehicle owners become more aware of the potential effects of E20 fuel on their engines. As the fuel sector continues to evolve, it is likely that consumers will prioritize the safety and performance of their vehicles, even if it means paying a higher price for premium petrol.
In the coming weeks, it will be essential to monitor the situation and assess the long-term impact of E20 fuel on vehicle engines. Meanwhile, vehicle owners are advised to consult with their manufacturers or fuel experts to determine the best fuel option for their vehicles.
The shift towards premium petrol highlights the need for increased awareness and education about the effects of E20 fuel on different types of vehicles. As the demand for premium petrol continues to rise, fuel manufacturers and dealers must be prepared to meet the changing needs of consumers and provide them with the best possible options for their vehicles.
