BMC Engineer Arrested For ₹20,000 Bribe

A sub-engineer from the A-Ward of the municipal corporation was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The engineer, R.V. Jaiswal, was caught red-handed at the A-Ward office while taking the bribe from a woman who had applied for permission to repair her household kitchen's drainage line and chambers for a cloud kitchen business.

The woman had filed a complaint with the Mumbai ACB on June 15 after Jaiswal allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1.25 lakh for granting the permission. During a verification on August 17, it was found that Jaiswal had reduced his demand to ₹20,000. The ACB then set a trap and caught Jaiswal accepting the bribe.

Jaiswal, who is 39 years old and posted at the solid waste management department of A-Ward, was found with a mobile phone and cash worth ₹7.03 lakh during a personal search. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of trap officer ACP Deepika Dangarne. The ACB has informed that Jaiswal's arrest is a result of the bureau's efforts to curb corruption in the municipal corporation.

The BMC's A-Ward office is responsible for providing various services to citizens, including permission for repairs and maintenance of properties. The arrest of Jaiswal highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the functioning of the municipal corporation.

The Prevention of Corruption Act is a law that aims to prevent corruption in government offices and public institutions. The law provides for punishment for public servants who accept bribes or engage in corrupt practices.

The ACB's efforts to curb corruption in the municipal corporation are ongoing. The bureau has been conducting raids and investigations to catch corrupt officials and prevent bribery.

The arrest of Jaiswal is a significant step in the fight against corruption in the municipal corporation. It sends a strong message that corrupt practices will not be tolerated and that those who engage in such practices will be punished.

The municipal corporation has been facing several challenges in recent years, including corruption and inefficiency. The arrest of Jaiswal is a step towards addressing these challenges and improving the functioning of the corporation.

In conclusion, the arrest of the BMC sub-engineer for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 is a significant development in the fight against corruption in the municipal corporation.
