Reliance Industries shareholders have approved a change to the company's main business objects, allowing it to enter the explosives, blasting agents, fertilisers and agrochemicals businesses. The proposal was cleared through a postal ballot completed on August 20, 2026.

The change will become effective after approval from the Registrar of Companies. Under the approved change, Reliance can produce, refine, process, store, transport, buy, sell, import, export and market several chemical and explosive products. These include ammonia, nitric acid and different grades of ammonium nitrate.

The company can also enter the fertilisers and agrochemicals segment, handling downstream products such as anhydrous ammonia, ammonium sulphate, urea ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate. Reliance will be able to work with related raw materials, feedstocks, intermediate chemicals and by-products.

The company had 47,11,877 shareholders on the July 17 cut-off date, and KFin Technologies provided the remote electronic voting facility for the postal ballot process. Voting took place entirely through the remote e-voting system.

Reliance's entry into the explosives and fertilisers businesses is a significant development for the company, and the strong shareholder support reflects the confidence in the company's growth strategy. The approval of related-party deals also demonstrates the trust of shareholders in the company's decision-making process.

The expansion into new business areas is expected to contribute to the company's revenue growth and diversification. Reliance Industries is one of the largest private-sector companies in India, and its foray into the explosives and fertilisers sectors is likely to have a significant impact on the industry.

In conclusion, the approval of Reliance Industries' entry into the explosives and fertilisers businesses, along with the strong backing of related-party deals, marks an important milestone for the company.
